Development of a separate collection network of Corfu biowaste

This project develops a complete network for the collection and temporary storage of biowaste in the Municipality of Corfu, in line with the forecasts and objectives of the National, Regional and Municipal Planning. The project includes 2 sub-projects: Subproject 1: Supply of biowaste, budget EUR 521.236. Concerns the supply of 1,800 buckets of home composting, 1,000 660 litre coffee bins and 3.800 bins of 10 litres of kitchen biowaste collection (with bags for one year).- Subproject 2: Procurement of biowaste collection, budget EUR 404.240. It concerns the supply of 18 m² and 2 rotating drum waste trucks of 12 m² for the separate collection of biowaste. The implementation of the project fully covers the network with biowaste collection bins in order to meet the 2020 target. Some 1,440 tons of biowaste are diverted by domestic composting annually by sorting the kitchen biowaste to the source, while setting up the "Band Coffee Network, with 1,000 bins of 660 litres, to be placed in arrays, together with the collection bins in separate streams, of recyclable materials. Finally, for the better participation of citizens, 3,800 households (10 % of the total), 10 litre kitchen waste collection bins and biodegradable bags are distributed in a representative sample. The collected biowaste will be led to further processing and recovery (composting with or without energy production) at the facilities of the Integrated Waste Disposal Facility (OEDA) of the Solid Waste Management Association (SYDISA) in Temploni, Municipality of Corfu. Until OEDA’s facilities are completed, they will be composted in the transitional management unit that will operate in principle through a service provider contractor and then with the commission funded by the Public Investment Program (PIP).
