The upgrading of building facilities, the supply of modern scientific equipment for “Alks” and REE “Alkyon”/HELKE and the strengthening of the scientific potential will increase the quality of the services offered and will create the conditions for networking with corresponding national and European infrastructures by offering the most modern means for the implementation of high research and technical studies requirements. The scientific actions of the Act constitute a holistic approach to the capture, monitoring and management of coastal and marine resources, using the research infrastructure of ELKETHE in the Aegean Sea and the participation of highly specialised and experienced scientific and technical personnel. The detailed mapping of marine areas with a strong natural, geological, cultural and environmental interest, the fishing grounds and new aquaculture sites, the indication of suitable locations for marine wind farms, the study of marine biodiversity is expected to contribute greatly to the development of economic activities “in harmony with the natural environment”, such as experience tourism and fisheries and aquaculture management.
