The project concerns the creation of an integrated information system for the citizens and students of Samos Island and the publicity of cultural content to the citizens of the whole country. Much of the material relates to the history and literary and artistic production of Samos and is currently accessible only to visitors to the Library. The appropriate digital processing and upgrading will contribute to its wider dissemination, its exploitation by scholars and researchers with relevant interests and its use by schools, mainly secondary education, in the creative educational process. The project includes the following axes: Strengthening the Library’s technological infrastructure with appropriate electronic equipment, security equipment and an integrated system for the management and promotion of printed material and digital archival material on the Internet. It will be migrated to state-of-the-art software, based on web technologies, which, in addition to upgrading the library’s functions, will have the ability to manage digital material and create a promotional service, which will be accessible to the general public via internet, tablets and smart mobiles. —Utilisation of digitised rare material, especially related to Samos. This material will be documented, visualised using a visual character recognition program (OCR) and a digital library will be created, through the software to be acquired, broadening research capabilities in full text. The material to be included in this service will be copyright free. Creation of an information portal, through which the general public will be given access to all of the Library’s services and material through information technologies and widely used devices (smart mobiles using responsive interface).
