In the last five years, the Municipality of Trikkaion, utilising its rich cultural background and its historical dimension, is developing a strategy to promote the city of Trikala as a destination for urban tourism. Already with the completion of the work in the area of the old prisons of Trikala and their transformation into an open space hosting the “Research Center Vasilis Tsitsanis Museum”, and the creation of the “House of Trikaline Musical Creators”, an integrated cultural tour of the city center is being created, taking advantage of the possibilities offered by the largest urban cycling road in Greece, over 3 km long. In particular, the following points of interest-sights are located along the cycling road: The Tsitsani Museum, the Ottoman Hammam, the Kursoum Mosque, the Sports Museum, the Metropolitan Church of Agios Nikolaos, Asklepiio, the traditional neighborhood of Varousi, the Castle of the city, the Tower of the Clock, the House of Trikaline Musical Artists, a multitude of ecclesiastical monuments in Varousi, the Dorothea School, the old Manavian, the Bridge of the Askliyri, the central square of the Askleion. The completion of this route with the transformation of a historical preserved monument of the city of Trikala into a “House of Trikaline Musical Artists”, will enhance local tourist resources, while at the same time highlighting the local cultural identity of the city, which is directly intertwined with its musical tradition.
