Improvement of old hospital building for the creation of a tourist promotion centre for the cultural heritage of Thebes

The old Thebes Hospital is located in the economic and cultural center of the city of Thebes. It is adjacent to the church of Agios Georgios Thebes and the Municipal Conference Centre of Thebes, while across the street, in a building of important architecture, the Archaeological Museum of Thebes is based. Also Pindar Street on which the building is located is one of the most central and busiest streets of the cityThe plot where the building of the old hospital of Thebes is under renovation and reuse has area according to today’s counting on realised limits of 2.320.55 sq.m.The plan of the building is composed of sides that form right angles. The coverage of the building amounts to 448,76 sq.m. without including subsequent arbitrary constructions and the “closing” of semi-open spaces. In detail the ground floor of the old hospital of Thebes occupies 448.76 sq.m. and the exploitable basement area at 222.36 sq.m., therefore the spaces that will be attributed to public use amount to a total of 671.12 sq.m.The existing and under renovation building as shown by the documents of ownership changes, was built between one and two years after the year 1949. This plot was granted under the No.9492/1949 donation contract of the Municipality of Thebes to the Greek State in order to build a polymedium. After the construction of the new hospital of Thebes and the closure of the polymedical hospital-hospital in 2003, the Municipality asked the Greek State to return ownership of the site where the now inactive hospital exists again in the Municipality. This was done with the consent of the Greek State and the relevant decision of the Municipal Council with no.1/2004 which was transferred to the Land Registry in volume 1392 and number 76 on 4-5-2004. It has a title value. In this context, the desired results of the implementation and completion of the proposed act concern:In urban planning and aesthetic integration of the siteThe development of programmes and activities in an area of the country that produces culture from the earliest years The creation of a digital promotion centre of Thebes which will assist the actions of the Archaeological Museum of Thebes and will promote in the multitude of visitors the intensification of the site.
