The project concerns the completion – restoration of part of the western collage (Cortina) of the Venetian fortifications of the old city of Chania. Cortina’s fortification work is part of the wider rectangular fortress with retaining walls, built during the Venetian period. The fortification of this type reflected the new defense systems of that time, after the prevalence of gunpowder and new firearms. The section concerning the interventions of this project extends straight from the Priuli fortification to the point where it meets the modern Meletiou Piga street. Over the years, spatial interventions altered part of this side, since much of it was blocked and the later road was opened up. The work planned to be carried out concerns the restoration of this part of the wall. With the implementation of the project, another important part of the fortifications of the old city of Chania will be delivered restored and safe to the residents and numerous visitors of the city.
