The project aims to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility along Attica’s busiest road arteries — Athinon, Mesogeion and Poseidonos Avenues — where high traffic volumes created serious risks for pedestrians. Through EU co-financing, five new pedestrian bridges were constructed to provide safe and convenient crossings for citizens.
The locations were selected after a detailed technical and social assessment, taking into account accident data, pedestrian demand, traffic conditions, and local community needs. Each bridge is fully accessible, equipped with elevators and designed to blend into the urban landscape.
The project directly benefits residents, schoolchildren, older persons, and people with disabilities who cross these roads daily. It also improves access to public transport, schools, workplaces, and the coastal front. The bridges have become safe and visible points of connection, reducing accidents and making everyday mobility in Attica more inclusive and sustainable.
