The project concerns the reuse of the main part of the Aigio paper mill, which is the “heart” of the old industrial complex. The paper industry of Aigio during the approximately 60 years of its operation erased a very important course, gaining a nationwide scope, which during its periods of prosperity extended across borders. It was one of the largest industrial complexes in the country and was inextricably linked with the economic and social development of Aigio and Achaia in general. The influence it exercised over the entire region of Achaia gave the paper industry a special place in the history of the city of Aigio and the collective memory of the inhabitants. Due to the historical and architectural value of the building complex, as well as its location at a strategic point of the coastal zone of Aigio, between the old port and the new port of the city, the exploitation of the paper mill of Aigio is a timeless objective of the Municipality. This project will contribute to the achievement of this goal, as it comes as a continuation of the previous efforts made by the former Municipality of Aigio and now Aigialeia Municipality.
