The project concerns the procurement of basic research equipment of the Center for Biological Applications (KBE) of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) for the creation of a Center for Reference and Certification of Organisations and Products of Agricultural Food Interest in the research laboratory infrastructure of KBE in Angelochori. The project will allow the transfer of new research activities of the Laboratory of Microbiology of the Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with the close cooperation of the General Biology Laboratory and the Zoology Laboratory, as well as units from other laboratories of the Department of Biology. In particular, the objectives of the project shall include: 1. Genetic identification, aiming at the traceability of livestock for desired characteristics (e.g. productivity, disease resistance) and food. 2. The development; production of probiotics, feedingstuffs, food supplements for the well-being and health of livestock. 3. Isolation of micro-organisms for food production for specific patient categories. 4. Food safety through the detection and quantification of biotoxins and allergens in foods. 5. The strengthening of agricultural production and agricultural income through the biocontrol of bees and the enrichment of the soil.
