The approved Measures Programme of the above Management Plan includes two categories of measures, the basic and complementary ones, of which the basic measure with code M14B0404, imposes the implementation of the Water Safety Plans by the IEYA or the Municipalities, with the ultimate aim of protecting and ensuring the quality of drinking water of their water sources.
The legal framework relating to drinking water quality limits does not exhaust the whole problem of ensuring safe drinking water by the competent authorities, since the resolution of the problems is not only ensured by the establishment of appropriate limits and supervision of compliance with them, but requires a broader approach that also covers problems of achieving the limits set (e.g. methods of processing, technological capabilities, operating modes), adequate protection of the intake water and protection of the natural waters (approximately, and the protection of the natural waters). Baseline?">The Water Safety Plans are a holistic approach related to water quality management from the water source to the consumer’s tap, adopting the principle of "multiple barriers" and focusing on the need to implement control measures on every link in the water supply chain.
