The project concerns the implementation of a measure for the protection of drinking water on the island of Samos, which is included in the approved River Basin Management Plan of the Aegean Islands Water District (GR 14), in compliance with the requirements of European Directive 2000/60/EC. By elaborating the extension of the Water Safety Plan, which will be implemented throughout the island except for the Municipal Units Vatheos and Karlovasos, the quality management of water from the water source to the tap of the consumer is achieved, adopting the principle of “multiple barriers” and the implementation of control measures on each link of the water supply chain. In particular, the Water Safety Plan shall ensure: Minimise the presence of pollutants in drinking water from the source. The proper treatment of water to be suitable for drinking. Proper distribution to water networks, irrespective of the size of these networks. The implementation of the project contributes to the maintenance and improvement of the water reserve, as well as the upgrading of the quality of drinking water, resulting in the improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants of Samos.
