The management of bathing water quality is an obligation of the country, in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2006/7/EC and in accordance with Directive 2000/60/EC on water and their transpositions. The aim of Directive 2006/7/EC is to establish appropriate management measures and ensure that quality standards are respected in order to achieve the conservation, protection and improvement of bathing water quality and to ensure the protection of public health. In particular, measures, conditions, methods and procedures have been adopted concerning the monitoring and classification of bathing water quality, the management of their quality and the provision of information to the public about it.This project concerns the implementation of the obligations arising from Joint Ministerial Decision 8600/416/E103 (Directive 2006/7/EC) on the bathing coasts of the South Aegean Region for the period 20162023. In particular, the project includes:(a) a programme to monitor the quality of bathing water on the coast of the South Aegean Region to be carried out by the Special Secretariat for Water during the bathing season for the years 2016-2023. Monitoring shall be carried out on designated bathing beaches with a specific frequency, methods and rules and at sampling points, coded accordingly.(b) Information of bathing water identities. The identities are to describe and present the basic characteristics of bathing water, to identify sources of pollution likely to affect water quality and to assess the impact size. During the preparation (in the case of new shorelines), the review and updating of bathing water identities, data from bathing water monitoring and evaluations shall be used in accordance with the requirements of the above-mentioned CSG.All monitoring points, results of sampling, bathing water IDs, etc. are posted on www.bathingwaterprofiles.gr of the Special Secretariat for Water.
