The project concerns the restoration of the complex of buildings “AKAVI” located at the junction of V.Epirou and Papaloukas streets in Rhodes.The main building is a remarkable example of neoclassical architecture, characterised by the Ministry of Culture as a “work of art that needs special state protection” (Government Gazette 675/tv/4.11.81.) The building, rectangular floor plan, is a two-storey with underground constructed of bearing masonry, with a wooden roof and a wooden roof. Impressive are the wooden ornate ceilings of some rooms, with the painting decoration that adorns them and other architectural artistic details.The restoration intervention that is the subject of this project focuses mainly on reinforcements of the static adequacy of the building, repairs of stone structures and coatings, maintenance of timber and metal furnishings, complementing and cleaning of the painting decoration, the creation of a non-city space and the construction of the building. It will also be due to its special aesthetics and historical value, an attraction for visitors to the island.
