A metagenomic approach and advanced sequencing technology will be used to access in a holistic way the incidence of viruses in native plants of the Azores, given that it is completely unknown and neglected. Being the viruses responsible for almost 50 % of emerging plant diseases, the project aims to develop tools that promote the sustainability of endemic habitats, agricultural resources and food security.
