The aim of the project “Development of research infrastructure in the areas of smart specialisation and strengthening institutional capacity of Daugavpils University” is to strengthen the institutional capacity of Daugavpils University (DU) by concentrating research resources and modernising research infrastructures of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology (LHEI) in the areas of smart specialisation in order to promote the use of research infrastructure in solving economic problems. The project provides for the development of the necessary infrastructure through the purchase of new equipment in the priority development areas defined in the internationally evaluated research programmes: Mathematics, physics, nanomaterials, materials engineering; It is planned to implement a non-economic project by promoting several areas of specialisation identified in the Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3): Knowledge-intensive bioeconomy; Biomedicine, medical technologies, biopharmaceuticals and biotechnology; Smart materials, technologies and engineering systems; Smart energy – Actions planned to achieve the objective: Addition of the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology to the DU, the purchase of scientific equipment and equipment for the implementation of the joint research programme “Biology” of the research programme “Mathematics, Physics, Nanomaterials, Materials Engineering” and research programme “Biology”, as well as the acquisition of equipment for implementation of the joint research programme “Biology” with the Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology.The total funding of the project is EUR 3069684.21, including ERDF funding EUR 2478770,00, state budget funding EUR 437430.00.The estimated duration of the project is 44 months from the day of conclusion of the contract: December 2017 – July 2021.
