University of Latvia innovation grants for students

“The aim of the project "The University of Latvia Innovation Grants for Students" (hereinafter – the Project) is to promote the implementation of innovation applications for students at the University of Latvia, to develop the innovation capacity and enterprising capacity of students in solving significant problems for the society or part of it.The project’s planning is based on the development strategy of the University of Latvia, evaluation of faculties and identified topicalities in the field, priorities and objectives of the Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3), as well as Latvian policy planning documents. The main activities of the project are:1.Development of innovation capacity and enterprising of students by engaging in improvement and development of new curricula, including practical parts of curricula that help to promote students’ innovators’ capacities, skills and enterprise2.Development of students’ innovation abilities by organising innovation-supporting informative events, creating teams (including among university students), performing prototype development in the pre-incubation phase.3. 4.Development of student innovations and entrepreneurship by planning the creation and development of their potential business (until the establishment of a new enterprise)5.In cooperation with the project partner Riga Technical University and SIA Green Industry Innovation Center, it is planned to incubate student business ideas (until the start-up of a new enterprise) in the implementation of the innovation programme of students, provide students with access to laboratories, materials, as well as scientific management development. Public presentations at the end of each phase will be held at the end of each phase, while awarding a one-time scholarship to the authors of the best exhibitions. Riga Technical University, Institute of Solid state Physics of the University of Latvia, SIA “Green Technology incubators”, as well as at least 24 merchants will participate as project partners.The project will involve:-No less than 4500 students (training and pre-incubation phases).-No less than 35 representatives of academic staff of the University of Latvia as mentors, work group managers, lecturers and experts.-No less than 25 Latvian-registered merchants, and principles of innovative institutions. The total cost of the project is estimated at EUR 3329802,93, incl. ERDF funding of EUR 2497351.44 and private co-financing of EUR 832451.49 The planned duration of the project is 36 months, from June 2019 to September 8, 2022.
