University of Latvia and institutes in the European Research Area – Excellence, Activity, Mobility, Capacity

The global scientific space attaches ever less importance to geographical boundaries, instead giving priority to an integrated partnership of scientific institutions with local or international government organisations and entrepreneurs in order to jointly find innovative solutions to global challenges and development. The main objective of the project is to successfully integrate into the European Research Area. The main planned activities of the project are the preparation of high-level project applications in Horizon 2020 and FP9 and other international programmes, the organisation of international conferences in Latvia, participation in international conferences in cooperation with four partners: University of Latvia (LU), Institute of Solids Physics, University of Latvia (LU CFI), Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (LU MII) and UL Institute of Literature, Folklore and Arts (LU LFMI). It is planned to implement three national partnership plans: To participate in the Joint Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure Consortium (CLARIN-ERIC), to participate in the European Social Research Infrastructure Consortium (ESS-ERIC), to participate in the Consortium of the Microbiological Resources Research Infrastructure (MIRRI) and to implement an action plan for cooperation in the field of quantum computing. As a main result of the project,166 high-level project applications under Horizon 2020, FP9 and other international programmes have been assessed with a predominant overthreshold. The project is planned from October 1, 2017 until December 31, 2022 with total costs of EUR 1874818.82, incl. ERDF funding EUR 1593595.99, but state budget co-financing is EUR 281222.83. Several activities started in 2017.
