The aim of the project “Development of Liepaja State Gym 1 as a methodological centre in the field of STEM and ICT” is: Develop the infrastructure of Liepaja State Gymnasium 1, in order to facilitate the gradual introduction of general education content based on the planned competence approach. In order to ensure activities in order to achieve the specific objective specified in Regulations No 323 of the Cabinet of Ministers, the following main actions are planned: 1. Improving the ergonomic learning environment; 2. Purchase of ICT equipment; 3. Setting up and equipping new offices of natural sciences; 4. Improvement of the sports area; 5. Development of the methodical centre. Main activities: — to improve the infrastructure of Liepaja State Gymnasium 1 (hereinafter – Gymnasium) through renovation of premises and sports grounds; — to increase the capacity of the Gymnasium Methodical Centre, inter alia, to ensure the adaptation of infrastructure for methodological functions by providing advisory services to representatives of other Liepaja educational institutions administration, teachers, pupils and parents, as well as educational institutions of surrounding municipalities; — to develop the possibilities of the Gymnasium to offer modern, high-quality ICT solutions for the provision of further teacher education and students’ scientific research work (hereinafter- ZPD) and the needs of talented pupils in Liepaja and the surroundings; — to create new rooms of natural sciences and purchase appropriate equipment. The project is planned to be implemented within 3 months. Construction works were started already in 2017. Total costs:EUR 2 083831.69 of which eligible costs ERDF EUR 1429797.95, which represents 85 % of eligible costs, state budget grant – EUR 63079.32 and municipal funding EUR 189237.97, as well as ineligible costs EUR 401716.45, which are necessary for full completion of the building, but not supported within the framework of Cabinet Regulations. Expected results: A fully modernised educational institution. Number of pupils enrolled in a modernised educational establishment: 570 pupils.
