The aim of the project is to strengthen the academic staff of Riga Technical University in the fields of strategic specialisation. The Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy identifies a modern education system that meets the requirements of the future labour market as one of the priorities of the Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy, which promotes the transformation of the economy and the development of competences, entrepreneurial capacity and creativity at all levels of education necessary for the implementation of priorities in the Latvian Smart Specialisation Strategy. RTU, as one of the largest Latvian universities, plays an important role in promoting the development of this priority. For several years RTU has been implementing changes aimed at ensuring internationally competitive and research-based higher education. RTU vision by 2020 is to become the leading science and innovation university in the Baltic States. In order to implement this goal, RTU strategy and development programme is based on 3 main goals of the university – high-quality study process, excellent research, as well as sustainable innovation and commercialisation activities- and it is implemented by 6 main priorities of the university – internationalisation, interdisciplinarity, digitalisation, organizational, financial and infrastructure efficiency.In order to implement the project “Strengthening Academic Staff of Riga Technical University in Strategic Specialisation” the RTU study personnel development plan was developed in order to implement the project “Structuring academic staff of Riga Technical University in strategic specialisation” co-financed by the ESF. The Development Action Plan defines the objectives, the corresponding tasks and activities, as well as the results to be achieved in order to strengthen academic staff in the strategic areas of specialisation, taking into account the recommendations of external evaluations, already started RTU development projects, as well as the goals and tasks set out in the RTU Strategy and Development Programme. Analysis of the information gathered in the reports and surveys of academic staff helped to develop the project in a more targeted way to strengthen the academic staff of the Project, as well as to understand in what fields the university has already implemented good practice and where additional measures should be taken.Being aware of the activities to be carried out in strengthening the academic staff of RTU and raising competence, as well as taking into account SAM 8.2.2. To strengthen the academic staff of higher education institutions in strategic areas of specialisation, the project proposes development activities, which include: It is planned to implement the project for 48 months from 1 December 2018 to 30 November 2022 and its total eligible costs are EUR 3 236 742.51 (including ESF funding – EUR 2 751 231.13 and state budget funding – EUR 485 511.38).
