Strengthening the capacity of academic staff of Riga Stradins University

The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the academic staff of Riga Stradins University by internships in Latvian companies and providing training in areas where they need additional competences, complement the university’s academic family by involving foreign academic staff and doctoral students.The aim has been nominated in accordance with the RSU Development Strategy 2017-2021, its human resources development and internationalisation plan for increasing the university’s competitiveness, human capital development and promotion of international cooperation. To achieve the project goal RSU has developed Academic Personnel Development Plan, which summarises the current situation and describes the planned activities of the project, which are the following: (*) Involvement of doctoral students in academic work, (*) employment of foreign academic staff as teachers, (*) improvement of academic staff competence by internship with merchant(*) development of competence of academic staff- professional English language training,(*) improvement of academic staff competence – specialised training – school of young lecturers and cooperation competence with industry.The project is planned to be implemented in two major RSU study directions “Health Care” and “Justice Sciences”. The orientations have been chosen on the basis of the RSU strategic priorities as well as the growing economic demand for human resources in the field of health care. In turn, the perspectives of development of legal science RSU see in interdisciplinarity, integrating various fields of science, focusing in particular on health care. In order to effectively use the resources, the RSU agency “Red Cross Medical College” is included in the implementation of the project as a direct beneficiary.During the project it is planned to attract 6 PhD students, 7 foreign academic staff, 13 RSU academic staff representatives internships and 118 people will improve their competence (80 young lecturers within the framework of the Youth Lecturers School, 25 academic staff representatives improved English language skills and 13 academic staff internships with businessmen). The total cost of the project is EUR 563200.31, of which EUR 478720.27 is co-financing from the European Social Fund and EUR 84480.04 from the state budget.The planned duration of the project is 48 months. The project is planned to start on 1 January 2019.
