The timber sector is one of the most important economic sectors in Võrumaa, both in terms of employment and export. The sector has been selected as a key area for “smart specialisation” in the region. The challenge is to create higher added value to ensure the sector’s competitiveness in the future. This requires systematic cooperation, including marketing and product development. The competitiveness and growth of the timber sector in Võrumaa will be achieved through a larger number of joint activities, joint ventures and the strengthening of companies in the sector.
