The general objective of the project is to develop the necessary technical and economic documentation in order to finance the regional project for the development of the water and wastewater infrastructure in Olt county, thus contributing to the implementation of the local strategy for the development of the water and wastewater sector. The project is a stage of preparation of the investment project (as required by the expertise on the elaboration of the supporting documents of the financing application) which will lead to the achievement of the targets of the Accession Treaty. The implementation of the integrated water/wastewater project will lead to the following benefits: — rational use of water resources by providing centralised quality drinking water supply services, optimising consumption and reducing water losses in distribution networks; — conservation, protection and improvement of the quality of the environment through the collection, treatment and appropriate discharge of urban waste water from agglomerations over 2000 p.e.; — reducing risks to human health and protecting human health through proper water treatment; efficiency of the activity of the Regional Operator of water and sewerage services by reducing the costs of draining septic tanks; improvement of water quality in surface watercourses by appropriate treatment of domestic waste water before discharge into natural releases.
