The general objective of the project is to prepare the financing application and the award documentation for the INFRAMETEO investment project (“Modernisation of the infrastructure for monitoring and warning of severe hydro-meteorological phenomena in order to ensure the protection of life and material goods”) in order to obtain funding from European funds for the 2014-2020 programming period. The INFRAMETEO project will continue the development of the national system for monitoring and warning dangerous weather phenomena to ensure the protection of life and material goods by implementing the following components: — Upgrading the meteorological radar network (7 Doppler, dual – polarimetric, S-band weather radars); — Modernisation of the lightning detection network; — Upgrading the communication infrastructure and improving the performance of the information system of the National Meteorology Administration; — Extension of the modernisation of the national network of automatic meteorological stations; — Redundant system (hot-standby), for receiving, processing, visualising, archiving and disseminating data from meteorological satellites and atmosphere surveillance; — System for receiving, processing, archiving and disseminating data from Copernicus Sentinel-1, Sentinel-2, Sentinel-3 and Sentinel-5P satellites capable of providing records of areas affected by disasters or crisis situations on national territory; Establishment of the Agrometeorological Centre for the VI-Europe Region of the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). The project thus contributes to the achievement of specific objective 5.1 of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme (MAOP) on “Reduction of effects and damage to the population caused by natural phenomena associated with the main risks of climate change, mainly flooding and coastal erosion”, through the modernised and efficient system of monitoring and prevention of dangerous weather phenomena, including heavy rainfall generating rapid flooding or flooding at regional/local level.
