Regional Project for the Development of Water and Waste Water Infrastructure in Galati County, between 2014 and 2020

The general objective of the project is to improve the water and sewerage infrastructure in the localities of Galati county included in the project, in order to fulfil the obligations established by the Accession Treaty and the relevant European Directives. Through the project, the following indicators set out in the LIOP will be reached by 2022: CO18 = 129,671 inhabitants CO19 = 44.242 equivalent inhabitants Through these indicators, the project will contribute to achieving LIOP results, OS 3.2, as well as to compliance with European directives, as follows: The degree of connection to the water supply system in 2016 is 85 % – 317.660 inhabitants (of which 62 % – 234.357 inhabitants, according to continuous supply to the quality parameters of treated water). 2S33 – After investments in LIOP, the degree of connection and compliance will increase to 97 % – 364,028 inhabitants, in 2023 and 129,671 inhabitants will be supplied with drinking water at the end of the project, i.e. 1.61.% of the inhabitants requiring water supply at the level of Romania (8.018.086 inhabitants in 2014) and about 0.68 % of the total inhabitants in Romania (19.174.919 inhabitants in 2022). The level of compliant connection of biodegradable organic load (in l.e.) to systems for collecting l.e. in agglomerations in the project coverage area is 85 % (297.751 l.e.). 2S31 – The degree of connection of biodegradable organic load to collection systems in agglomerations by over 10000 p.e. will increase from 96 % (296.497 l.e.) in 2016, to 100 %, after completion of the project, reaching 309.491 p.e. 2S32 – The degree of connection of biodegradable organic load to collection systems in agglomerations with 2000-10000 l.e. will increase from 3 % in 2016 (1.254 l.e.), at 78 % after the completion of the project in 2021, reaching 32,502 p.e. 2S29 – investments were foreseen to achieve 1 compliant SEAU, serving an agglomeration with more than 10,000 l.e. (out of the 14 agglomerations at the level of the project coverage) 2S30 – investments were foreseen to achieve 2 compliant SEAUs, serving 2 agglomerations (out of 14 agglomerations at project coverage level) between 2000-10000 l.e. The number of inhabitants/l.e. whose waste water will be transported and treated after project completion, it will be 334.634/341.993 l.e., respectively a total of approx. 1.68 % of the total in Romania (20325414 l.e. in 2022) and a total of approx. 3.2 % of p.e. which still needed to be connected to centralised waste water systems in Romania (10630137 l.e. in 2023). For waste water, the compliant rates for agglomerations are verified and reported annually by the National Administration of “Romanian Waters”, while the rate of connection to the centralised water system is reported by the National Institute of Statistics and the water quality is confirmed by the Ministry of Health.
