The GENERAL objective proposed by the project is to update, develop and improve the knowledge of the primary medical personnel (family doctors) and medical personnel with activity in gastroenterology, laboratory medicine, medical microbiology, internal medicine, medical imaging, infectious diseases, oncology (residents/specialists/mayorals) in Romania working in public health units in South development regions, South-East, South-West, North-East, Center, West, North-West and Bucharest-Ilfov, in terms of early diagnosis, staging and therapeutic management and complications of patients with chronic hepatitis B/C virus infections. With this training program it is also intended to create a connection infrastructure for the involvement of trained personnel in future screening projects to identify groups of people at risk with a high prevalence of HBV/HCV viral infections, which require antiviral treatment. The training of the target group will create the human infrastructure so necessary for the implementation of national screening programs for the detection of infected patients. In the case of those with chronic infection, through imaging methods that will be exemplified in the practical courses, it is desired to improve the early diagnosis of liver cirrhosis and their complications such as hepatocellular carcinoma, patients being sent to third centers of hepatology in a curative stage. The positive effects of this project are as follows: 1-Increasing the number of people benefiting from health programs and services oriented towards prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of viral hepatitis B/C as well as hepatocellular carcinoma by improving the level of competence of professionals in the medical sector. 2-Identifying groups of patients with advanced liver fibrosis, secondary to viral etiology hepatitis with the help of specialised physicians prepared within the project, so that effective screening programs can be performed to identify hepatocellular carcinoma, one of the important causes of liver mortality. 3-Study of viruses and mechanisms regarding the determination of liver fibrosis and hepatocarcinogenesis, by training laboratory doctors and microbiologists in the field of molecular biology of HBV and HCV. 4-Increasing the degree of knowledge of the epidemiological profile of HBV and HCV infection in the general population or in certain population groups through prevalence studies, epidemiological research, development of the national registry of patients infected with HBV/HCV, in accordance with the strategic objectives defined in the National Health Strategy 2014-2020.
