We grow in Romania!

Stimulating the participation in education of children in the area of Codlea Municipality whose parents are abroad and preventing early school leaving through integrated activities aimed at a minimum of 270 children in this situation. The project “Crestem in Romania!” aims by achieving its objectives to reduce the early school leaving rate by implementing preventive measures and support at preschool, primary and secondary education level for children whose parents are away for work abroad. It is a generally known fact that these children who are deprived of parental support and affection are exposed to several risks, such as: emotional disorders, self-isolation, lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem, various phobias, etc. All this causes changes in behavior, loss of interest in school activities, in many cases even school abandonment. The absence of a parent or both parents at an early age causes changes in the life of the future teenager that can endanger his development and success in life. Education, health, social and legal protection are just a few of the rights to which these children’s access is limited. There are cases when children aged 13-14 are empowered by parents to take care of themselves, to take care of the household, without the support of an adult, relative or neighbor. They take over all the family responsibilities, the care of the younger brothers, the household and without the support or supervision of an adult they develop in the short term emotional and behavioral problems. In some cases, the role of parent in the child’s family with parents abroad to work is temporarily taken over by some extended family members – either by grandparents or by other close relatives (an aunt, uncles, etc.), and in this context some of the needs of care, support, supervision, motivation etc are replaced by them and the children pass more easily over the absence of parents in everyday life. The premises for initiating the project “Crestem in Romania” were based on the data available at the level of the Social Assistance Directorate at Mun. Codlea, the data provided by the kindergartens/schools/schools in the municipality of Codlea, as well as the general statistical data indicating a high number of children whose parents are away for work abroad. Thus, according to the data of the National Authority for the Protection of Children’s Rights and Adoption (ANPDCA), 91,345 children had parents away for work abroad, in June 2019, of which 16,453 children with both parents gone and 11,723 children with the single parent left. The proposed intervention will be addressed to a target group of 270 children of pre-school age, primary, secondary and lower secondary students (3-16 years), of which 49 from rural areas and 71 ethnic people
