GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT: Stimulating participation in education and prevention of early school leaving for 274 children whose parents are abroad from Hunedoara and Valcea County. The project will implement an intervention model to increase participation in education and reduce early school leaving for children with parents leaving abroad continuously improved by Save the Children Organisation in over 10 years of activity, model awarded in 3 editions of the Civil Society Gala (2013, 2017 and 2019) and recognised as an example of good practice in the field at national level. Save Children is an accredited provider of social services and operates in the field of promotion and protection of children’s rights since 1990. Over 2.2 million children were included in educational, social and protective programs. It carries out projects aimed at facilitating access to education and preventing school abandonment for vulnerable children, mainly through school-type interventions, but also other types of interventions, through which, since 1998, it has supported over 42,000 children. It has long-standing collaborations with schools, SPAS, DGASPC, ISJ in many counties, including those in which the proposed project takes place. Starting in 2010, a complex program for the protection and education of children left alone at home as a result of the departure of parents to work abroad is developed at national level. The organisation Save Children has contributed to the improvement of the relevant legislation, concreteised by new legislative provisions included in the Child Law in 2013 and 2020. HOW THE PROJECT WILL GENERATE A POSITIVE LONG-TERM EFFECT: Through the proposed objectives and activities, as well as the expected results, the project produces a significant and lasting change in the quality of life of children with parents abroad from the 2 counties targeted (Hunedoara and Valcea) related to the West and South-West Oltenia regions. Through the project, 274 students and preschoolers with parents abroad from 4 localities in the county. Valcea – Prundeni, Ionesti, Sirineasa and Ramnicu Valcea – and 3 localities in the county. Hunedoara – Vulcan, Lupeni and Teliucu Inferior – will benefit from an integrated package of services to stimulate participation in education and prevent early school leaving. The social assistance technicians employed in the project will carry out social surveys that will allow 117 students and preschoolers to be included in the project in this situation in Valcea county and 157 students and preschoolers from Hunedoara county. The 274 children will benefit from an integrated package of educational support services, psycho-social, recreational and social services, as well as material support for participation in activities.
