The general objective of this project is to increase the number of people benefiting from health programmes and targeted services for prevention, early detection, diagnosis and early treatment for breast cancer. In this respect, the present project aims to start all the necessary activities in order to carry out an organised screening programme for breast cancer in order to detect early breast lesions in the North-West and West regions. The activities foreseen under this project are in line with the provisions of the Council Recommendation of 02.12.2013 on cancer screening (2003/878/EC) – on the organisation of population screening programmes for cervical cancer, breast cancer and colorectal cancer, for which there is strong scientific evidence on their effectiveness and cost-effectiveness. The implementation of this extensive screening programme at the level of the North-West and West development regions will contribute to the achievement of Specific Objective 4.9: Increasing the number of people benefiting from health programmes and services oriented towards prevention, early detection (screening), diagnosis and early treatment for the main pathologies.
