“EDU@1000 Chance at a better future for 1000 children from Borsa and Viseu de Sus”

Within the project we address the needs of two communities in Maramures: The city of Borsa, which has 27,611 people, and according to the Atlas of marginalised urban areas, with a population of 66.92 % in disadvantaged areas on human capital; The city of Viseu de Sus, which has 15,037 people, and according to the Atlas of marginalised urban areas, with a % population in disadvantaged areas on human capital of 45.02 %. For the project we propose the following GENERAL OBIECTIV which will help improve the situation in terms of human capital: increasing access and participation in education for 1000 children aged between 2 and 16 years old and 200 young people and adults from Borsa and Viseu de Sus cities by implementing preventive, intervention and compensation measures based on an individualised educational plan, in an integrated approach, addressing parents/guardians and staff involved in the educational act. The risk of poverty and social exclusion is indirectly proportional to the level of education pers. Intervention in children’s education is desirable to break the vicious circle of poverty, lack of education and disinterested attitude towards education perpetuating from generation to generation. In order to achieve this objective we propose a large/combined project, implemented over 3 years, structuring an integrated response to the needs of the community consisting of measures of prevention, intervention and compensation at educational level, which will increase access to and participation in education in both children/students between 2 and 16 years old, as well as young people and adults who have not completed their compulsory education. The goal is to increase the level of education of the population, by including and maintaining children’s education programs, but also to re-inclusion young people and adults in order to continue the school. The school drop-out rate in Romania in 2013 was 17.3 %, which placed RO in the last 5 countries in the EU. Thus, Romania has undertaken to increase access and participation in education, in line with the Europe 2020 strategy, setting a target of 11.3 % in terms of abandonment rate for 2020. According to a study conducted by World Vision Romania, the percentage of children who leave school each year is 2.4 %, which makes it extremely difficult for Romania to achieve the proposed target. Without a concrete/strategic intervention to address the real problems faced by children and their families correlated with access and participate in school, the target assumed for 2020 will not be achieved. At the level of the educational units (including early education) involved in the proposed project, located in Borsa and Viseu de Sus, a study was carried out from which the following issues were identified in terms of education: Reduced participation in early education; Low interest of parents/guardians in the participation of children in education, including early education, also generated by the low level of education of parents/tout
