Organisation of early screening programmes, diagnosis and early treatment of tuberculosis, including latent tuberculosis

Promoting social inclusion, combating poverty and any form of discrimination, by increasing access to affordable, sustainable and high-quality services, including healthcare and social services of general interest, by organising health programmes and services oriented towards prevention, early detection (screening), early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis, including latent tuberculosis, for 75010 people belonging to vulnerable groups, including support and assistance activities, including grants, for 15003 people from vulnerable groups, complemented by information, education and awareness activities of the target group, as well as by organising training programs for 560 people in order to ensure an improved level of competence of professionals involved in prevention, early detection (screening), early diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis and latent tuberculosis. Long-term impact: Most patients with TB, including latent TB, are people with low socio-economic status, living in poor conditions and environments, unsafe or in remote and remote rural areas. Most often, the combination of TB, including latent TB and poverty leads to: isolation from family and friends; lack of information about the support and services available; facing problems in meeting basic needs and access to health services; the impossibility of buying food, medicines or the impossibility of going to the doctor; loss of service and indebtedness; the lack of adherence to treatment and its interruption in order to return to work in order to support the family, etc. Therefore, progress in the control of tuberculosis, including latent tuberculosis, in Romania, as well as in other parts of the European economic space, requires investments in strengthening the main elements of the national tuberculosis control programme (diagnosis, treatment and prevention), but also addressing the social determinants of tuberculosis, ensuring early diagnosis, followed by uninterrupted, complete and quality anti-TB treatment regimens, treatment under direct observation (DOT) and incentives (financial, food) for patients, in order to increase adherence to treatment, will lead to a better treatment success rate among TB patients, including latent TB, who can return to work, becoming productive citizens. In addition, prevention interventions in poor rural communities will contribute to an increased addressability of these populations towards primary healthcare services, to decrease the number of TB illnesses, including latent TB, decrease stigmatisation and discrimination of patients with TB, including latent TB and their families, as well as to an improved social and economic status of community members.
