High Performance Cloud Platform at Polytechnic University Timisoara – CloudPUTing

The general objective of the project is to increase the research and innovation capacity of the Polytechnic University of Timişoara (UPT) in order to raise the level of competitiveness and scientific visibility of the institution at international level, as well as to improve the technology transfer capacity for research results, by creating an energy efficient cloud node, of a private type based on open technologies, attached to the international network of research infrastructure, with applicability in the collection, storage, analysis, distribution and protection of heterogeneous data masses produced within the research and innovation initiatives carried out in the western region of Romania. The project contributes to the development of the national computing system and IT infrastructure&C for research by implementing a cloud node in Timisoara supported by UPT, connected to the network of European research institutes and interconnected with other similar nodes in the country. The UPT cloud node will be provided with the ability to serve Pervasive services for IoT, deep learning and smart solutions, as well as offering a fault-tolerant and secure platform for the protection of personal data under the new European legislation provided by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The particular aspects of the proposed infrastructure, which distinguish it from other similar structures, are (1) orientation towards free technologies and data (open), (2) heterogeneity of processing components and (3) energy efficiency in infrastructure, services and applications. Achieving this objective will lead to the following output indicators at the end of project implementation: a high-performance private cloud infrastructure designed for multi-domain applications for use in research and innovation projects; — three platform applications and cloud node interface modules that provide support for (1) data collection and distribution, (2) processing and analysis of serverless computing and (3) data protection is the basis of GDPR rules. three demonstration applications that will highlight the functionality of the cloud modules and services developed within the project: (1) an IoT-type application for crowdsourcing collection of air quality parameters, (2) intelligent selection of a diversity-based subset of images for deep learning algorithms, and (3) intelligent personal assistant for road traffic optimisation based on individual patterns and user groups. — a free and protected database with research data and data about certifiers – minimum 3 applications used by research/development teams from UPT for carrying out research projects (e.g. GIT, Dropbox, Social, Wiki, chat solutions)
