The general objective of the project is to modernise the port of Isaccea until 2023, by rehabilitating and modernising existing infrastructure and carrying out dredging works in order to ensure the minimum navigation depth at the berths. The project is a technical, functional and organizational solution to eliminate existing bottlenecks in the operation and development of the port. In this respect, the present project meets the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme, being consistent with Specific Objective 2.4. “Increasing the volume of goods transited through intermodal terminals and ports” of Axis 2 “Development of a multimodal, quality, sustainable and efficient transport system”, investment priority 7c “Development and improvement of environmentally friendly, low-carbon transport systems, including inland waterways and maritime transport systems, ports, multimodal connections and airport infrastructure, in order to promote sustainable mobility at regional and local level”. More specifically, by carrying out its activities, the project contributes directly to the LIOP indicator “2S6 Inland Waterway Goods”, by increasing the volume of goods transported through the port of Isaccea, from 0.2 million tonnes per year to 0.4 million tonnes per year until 2023. The purpose of the project is thus also directly correlated with the purpose of the state aid scheme, which aims to achieve the target of operating 32.20 million tonnes/year of goods on inland waterways in Romania In this respect, the project activities fall within the purpose and objectives a)-c) of the state aid scheme, as follows: a) Modernisation and development of port infrastructure in Romanian maritime and inland ports (fluvial) – through the project the Isaccea port infrastructure is modernised and rehabilitated; B) Modernisation/development of access infrastructure in Romanian maritime and inland ports (fluvial) – the project foresees measures to improve the access of vessels to the port, as well as within the port; C) Dredging activities in Romanian maritime and inland ports (fluvial) – the project provides for sediment removal works on the bottom of the waterways for access to the port in the berth area, in order to allow vessels access to the port. The activities carried out under the project will comply with national/community legislation and rules in the field of equal opportunities, sustainable development, public procurement, information and advertising and state aid, and the resulting infrastructure will be made available to interested users in an equal and non-discriminatory manner, under market conditions.
