General objective of the project: Protecting the health of the population in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, by investing in health infrastructure that contributes to the national, regional and local development of the system, reducing health inequalities, and strengthening the response capacity of the Fundeni Clinical Institute to the public health crisis caused by the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, having as a non-discriminatory target group the Romanian population and resulting in an entity equipped to manage the health crisis caused by COVID-19, with adequate capacity to care and treat cases of infection with SARS-CoV-2/health crisis management. The long-term impact of the project/The timely and effective response of the Fundeni Clinical Institute to the COVID crisis – 19 SARS-CoV-2 is a virus with extremely high contagiousness, which has already caused an unprecedented health crisis and the death of a large number of people globally and in states of the European Union, including Romania. Given that limiting the spread of the virus, as well as its extremely serious effects on the Romanian population, can only be achieved by ensuring the availability of medical devices and devices, it is necessary to adequately equip the public health units in which cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus are treated. Fundeni Clinical Institute is a public sanitary unit with beds, with legal personality, subordinated to the Ministry of Health, according to Government Decision no. 144/2020 on the organisation and functioning of the Ministry of Health, with subsequent additions and amendments. The acts carried out are as follows: provision of medical services, medical scientific research, university and postgraduate medical education, coordination of national health programs, organ transplantation, cellular therapies, capitalisation of research results and scientific and educational activities. Fundeni Clinical Institute has a great addressability, both in terms of the large number of patients treated, as well as of the pathology addressed to it, about 70 % of the hospitalised patients being patients outside the capital, and of them about 30 % come from rural areas. In accordance with the provisions of Government Decision No 1396/2010, the following centers of vital importance operate in the Institute without legal personality, besides other structures: — Center for digestive diseases and liver transplantation, – Center for Uronephrology and Renal Transplantation, – Center for Medular Transplantation, – Center dedicated to patients with inflammatory bowel diseases.
