The general objective of the project is the modernisation and development of the national inland water transport network, which contributes to the achievement of the overall objective of the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme – the development of transport, environment, energy infrastructure and risk prevention at European standards, in order to create the prerequisites for a sustainable, safe and efficient use of natural resources. The project coverage area is an important component of the national shipping system and part of TEN-T priority axis 18. The project aims to: Improving the fairway signalling system on the entire Romanian sector of the Danube ranging from the entry into the country to km 1.075, to the exit in the Black Sea, on the Sulina arm, in the Sulina rada at Hm 100, by implementing an intelligent signalling system with light lights and buoys at night, equipped with GNSS receiver, AIS device, lamps and beacon bodies marked by AtoNs; Improving the waterway management system by digitally updating the database with reference data for fairway infrastructure across the sector, and maintenance solutions with two rapid intervention boats, and two multifunctional signalling vessels one river and one sea, which will plant buoys in fixed positions, equipped with a multibeam probe with which bathymetric measurements will be carried out, as well as with ADCP equipment, which will measure the Danube flows. These new vessels will also be able to intervene quickly in relocating displaced buoys and checking the minimum depths at the boundaries and in the fairway axis throughout the monitored sector. Buoys will be monitored digitally from dispatched monitoring centers, located at headquarters and at FMAJ RA Sections and Agencies. Rehabilitation of fairway through the design of an optimal trajectory; Rehabilitation of the minimum signalling scheme on the Romanian Danube sector, as part of the Pan-European transport corridor VII. The Large Infrastructure Operational Programme 2014-2020, Specific Objective 2.5 – Increasing safety and security in all modes of transport and reducing the impact of transport on the environment, aims to increase safety and security on the shipping mode, by investing in the Danube fairway, and this project fully contributes to the achievement of this objective by modernising the waterway. The implementation of the proposed project will contribute to the fulfilment of the commitments undertaken by Romania in accordance with the Accession Treaty (referring to the transport sector) and the thematic objective 07 “Promoting sustainable transport systems and removing bottlenecks in major network infrastructures” of Regulation (EU) No1303/2013 and aims to:
