The project “Retrofitting the district heating system in Timişoara in order to comply with environmental protection standards on pollutant emissions to air and to increase efficiency in urban heat supply – Stage II”, has as general objective the promotion of investments in energy efficiency of the centralised heat supply system in the Municipality of Timisoara, in order to reduce losses in the transmission and distribution networks of the thermal agent. Through this general objective, the project falls under the Large Infrastructure Operational Programme, Priority Axis 7 – Development of environmental infrastructure under conditions of efficient resource management, Specific Objective 7.1 Increasing energy efficiency in centralised heat transmission and distribution systems in selected cities. The project aims at making the necessary investments for the rehabilitation of the centralised heat supply system in Timisoara, ensuring compliance – at the lowest cost – with the environmental obligations established by the Accession Treaty, European directives and national legislation, as well as with the objectives of national strategies and programmes relevant to the environment and increasing energy efficiency.
