Increasing UPB’s research capacity in Cloud technologies and processing massive data -CloudPrecis

The overall objective of the CloudPrecis project is to increase the research capacity in Cloud technologies and to process the massive data of the University of Politehnica Bucharest (UPB), Faculty of Automation and Computers, by expanding and upgrading the cloud infrastructure and storage capacity of Data Center PRECIS – CNTI, along with the development of a powerful distributed infrastructure for the collection and processing of large amounts of data obtained from systems and services of pervasive or IoT type. Building on the experience of over 20 years of the Faculty of Automation and Computers in the Grid and Cloud Computing domains, the CloudPrecis project aims to create a pole of excellence in Cloud Computing and massive large data, providing research services in multi-disciplinary domains, storage and processing services of massive data from different scientific fields and sources, as well as support for the development of advanced artificial intelligence systems, thus facilitating the creation of intelligent systems that meet the requirements of the current interconnected information society. In this way, CloudPrecis will integrate into a national network of modernised data centres and will be a milestone and force in international research and education networks and international structures for the standardisation, interconnection and use of computing resources, both those of which it is already a part and of new structures to which this project will allow adherence. The overall objective is in line with the Investment Priority 1a by the fact that with the implementation of the CPO project it will improve its research and innovation infrastructure and capabilities for the development of a center of excellence in RDI, in particle Cloud and BigData, and will promote its competence centre at European level. The project responds to the specific objective 1.1 of this Applicant Guide by increasing the capacity of RDI in an intelligent specialisation rule, namely the field "Information and Communication Technology, Space and Security", subdomain "2.1.4. High performance calculations and new computational models”. The project is in line with the Specific Objective for Priority Axis 1. R & D activities because the Cloud will support new digital services by providing massive data storage spaces and computing power needed to digitise European industry and science. The project meets the general objective of the Competitiveness Operational Programme which aims to contribute to the achievement of the overall objective of the Partnership Agreement by supporting RDI and ICT for competitiveness and development.
