In the field of monitoring and evaluation of groundwater quantity, regime and quality, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute provides activities resulting from the applicable national legislation and the Slovak Water Plan aimed at monitoring and evaluating the quantity and quality of groundwater. Measured and evaluated data from objects within the framework of basic and operational monitoring form the basic data for the assessment of groundwater status in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2000/60/EC, are the basis for the setting of measures and the subsequent assessment of the effectiveness of the approved measures of the Slovak Water Plan. The groundwater monitoring process in the buildings of the State hydrological network is fully in line with the Framework Programme for Monitoring Water Status 2016-2021 approved by the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter referred to as “MŽP SR”) and the approved monitoring programme for 2017. The aim of the project is to improve the groundwater monitoring process throughout Slovakia, aimed at improving the management and operation of groundwater objects, increasing the support of automation and operation of measurements and technological data processing lines, increasing the technical level of the monitored objects, ensuring the sampling of groundwater quality, including in situ measurement, operation of monitoring networks and monitoring performance, ensuring control mechanisms of the monitoring process in accordance with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2005, and improving the presentation and output of groundwater assessments. A measurable indicator of the project is the total number of groundwater bodies monitored.
