The Green Villages national project aims to preserve and restore biodiversity and ecosystems outside protected areas. The national project focuses mainly on implementation measures at the level of restoration, building and conservation of natural and semi-natural areas, as an element of green infrastructure, through the implementation of vegetation elements. The national project will contribute to improving the quality of the environment through the woody revitalisation of existing ecosystems. The aim of the national project is to implement GI elements at local level through vegetation elements and related activities. Thus, the targeted implementation of the vegetation elements contributes to the creation of semi-natural to natural landscape structures for a specific area, where natural specificities and ecosystem functions are taken into account. In addition to preserving and restoring biodiversity and ecosystems, national projects at local level will strengthen the climate function, the conservation function, the water protection function, the landscape function of ecosystems and the environmental function of the urbanised environment. The Slovak Environment Agency has the status of beneficiary of a national project in which it will provide support to other entities. The municipality will benefit from support, which constitutes elements of green infrastructure, on the basis of an approved aid application. Elements of green infrastructure are implemented through the supply of plants and related operations in the scope of planting plants, application of soil substrate intended for individual tree species, protection of the soil substrate, necessary field and earth treatments, fixation-stabilising elements/measures that have a protective character to support the growth of individual vegetation elements and subsequent monitoring of the vitality of individual plants during the implementation of the national project Green Villages.
