The initiative to submit the project “Supporting the deinstitutionalisation of social services facilities in Bratislava – DSS and ZPS RAČA” (Home of Social Services and Facilities for Seniors Rača) was a solution to the unsatisfactory state of provision of social services in the Bratislava region. One of the identified causes of the problem is the limiting physical environment with its large capacity and the associated limited targeting of the services provided. Another reason is the lack of space (physical and personnel) for the creation of new services for different target groups and the resulting impossibility of adequate services to respond to the diversity of social service recipients in terms of medical diagnosis. Address and individual approach to recipients of social services is perceived by the applicant as an important problem in their provision.Bratislavský Self-Governing Region is convinced that through the gradual transition from institutional care to community-based social services in the city districts, Bratislava – Rača and Bratislava – Nové Mesto, under priority axis no.2: “Easier access to more efficient and better quality public services” can achieve the objective of the project: a targeted and individual approach not only to recipients of social services, but also to their family members. The submitted project is piloted in the area in the applicant’s conditions and will serve as a model for other activities. The deinstitutionalisation of the whole facility will take place gradually, the introductory part being the main activities of the project: Ha 1 – Construction of a new building – semi-detached house DSS Račianska; (12 recipients of social services in the form of a year-round stay) HA 2 – Reconstruction and modernisation of the building ŠZ Strelkova (I.etapa); (12 social service recipients in the form of a year-long stay and capacity of 12 social service recipients in an outpatient form) HA 3 – Investing in material and technical equipment of DSS and ZPS Rača; Ha 4 – Measures to improve the energy performance of buildings. The implementation of the project “DSS and ZPS RAČA” will improve the social service in 2 establishments providing: specialised facility Strelkova – year-round residence (968 m²) and outpatient form (568 m²) of social services in Račianska – year-round stay (built area of 489 m²) The project contributes to the transition of social services to community, in which change is tangible in quality of life. Beneficiaries will be more able to decide on their daily lives and on matters concerning them. The social service will enable them to participate in activities that they are able to carry out themselves, gaining greater scope for self-implementation, which in turn changes attitudes towards themselves and towards the outside world. Incentives for a new environment and a change of approach have the potential to activate beneficiaries, which is expected to improve their quality of life.
