The aim of the project is to develop a programme of care (hereinafter referred to as PS) on the endangered species of European importance – the Danube Headquarters (Hucho hucho), based on current and relevant evidence and knowledge about the occurrence and risk factors of the species on the sites of its natural occurrence, also in the areas where the species was introduced and successfully naturalised in Slovakia. As a basis for the development of the PS we plan to use the results of field surveys and measurements (analysis) of selected environmental factors important to the occurrence of the species. On the basis of the research and measurements, the risk factors of the species will be determined and subsequently proposed measures for its protection. The project area includes a total of 8 sites, six of which are located in the Danube basin (the rivers Váh, Orava, Kysuca, Turiec, Hron, Danube) and two in the Vistula basin (the rivers Poprad and Dunajec). Within the project area, a total of 12 territories of European importance are included, where the Danube is the subject of protection. These are the following locations: SKUEV0253 Váh, SKUEV0665 Strečnianske meandre Váhu, SKUEV0243 Orava, SKUEV0833 Confluence Kysuce with Bystrica, SKUEV0382 Turiec and Blatnický potok, SKUEV0303 and SKUEV1303 Alúvium Hrona, SKUEV0947 Central flow of Hrona, SKUEV0309 Poprad, SKUEV0338 Plavečské Štrkoviská, SKUEV0337 Pieniny, SKUEV0090 and SKUEV2090 Dunajské luhy and SKUEV2064 Bratislavské luhy. The planned activities of the project affect the territorial scope of the reports of 6 national parks (NP Veľká Fatra, NP Malá Fatra, TANAP, PIENAP, NP Muránska planina, NAPANT) and 5 protected landscape areas (PKO Horná Orava, PLA Kysuce, PLA Poľana, PLA Štiavnické vrchy, PLA Dunajské luhy). Some species sites are located outside the existing network of protected areas, or in flow sections, from where the species has disappeared for various reasons (e.g. the Slaná, Hornád basin).
