The main objective of the project “Low-carbon strategy of organisations in the establishment of the Košice self-governing region” is to create conditions for activities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and thus the framework for combating climate change on the territory of the region. Through the measures resulting from the strategy paper, the Košice Self-Governing Region will in future be able to manage its own approach to the use of financial instruments, which will be directed to organisations in the establishment of the KSK (hereinafter referred to as “OvZP KSK”) with the management of the elimination of the negative impacts of climate change on the life of the inhabitants of the region. The place of implementation of the project is the territory of the Košice Self-Governing Region with the current population of 799 217. The main target group is residents of the region, especially those who use the services of OvZP KSK. The subject of the project is the development of a strategic document, which will monitor the organisations in the establishment of the KSK from the point of view of the state of supply of all available forms of usable energy, assess and evaluate this state and propose low-carbon measures for energy efficiency, the use of RES with regard to environmental protection, especially in relation to the production of greenhouse gas emissions and emissions of pollutants into the air and propose adaptation measures to climate change. A regional low-carbon strategy will be developed using the Covenant of Mayors’ methodology of the Sustainable Energy Action Plan for a minimum period of 5 years. In addition to the buildings, public lighting, thermal energy and transport sectors, the strategy will be extended at least to the smart cities sector. The Košice Self-Governing Region does not have its own thermal economy. The strategy paper will be prepared in line with the environmental impact assessment requirements and will therefore not have a negative impact on the environment. The indicator of the realised project outputs is the developed 1 low carbon strategy.
