Development of a care programme for the Mala Fatra National Park and its protection zone

The main objective of the project is to draw up a programme of care for the Malá Fatra National Park and its protection zone (hereinafter referred to as ‘the Malá Fatra National Park’). The care programme is a document of nature protection within the meaning of Act No 543/2002 on nature and landscape protection, as amended (hereinafter referred to as “the Nature and Landscape Protection Act”). NP Malá Fatra is also a territory of European importance SKUEV 0252 Malá Fatra. In the protection zone NP Malá Fatra there are 5 additional areas included in the NATURA 2000 European network of protected areas, namely: SKUEV 0221 Varínka, SKUEV 0251 Zázrivské lazy, SKUEV 0664 Uholníky, SKUEV 0663 Šíp and SKUEV 0665 Strečnianske meandre Váh, while the programme of care for NP Malá Fatra will be a document of nature protection also for these areas of European importance. The care programme will be drawn up in accordance with Annex 18 to Decree No 24/2003 of the Ministry of the Environment of the Slovak Republic, as amended. The care programme must take into account the requirements of the protected subject-matter of those territories of Community importance. The care programme will also include a proposal for the zoning of the Mala Fatra National Park and an update of the Visitors’ Rules. Part of the project for the development of PS on the National Park Malá Fatra and its protection zone is a publication on the territory, which will ensure awareness among relevant subjects (owners, administrators, tenants of land, tourist public) about the state of nature in Mala Fatra NP and the needs of nature conservation of the area.     For the successful development of the care programme, it is necessary to provide documents such as inventory research of selected protected species and habitats, monitoring of site visits, analysis of socio-economic conditions in relation to the impact on the territorial and species protection of Mala Fatra NP, analysis of current as well as historical data related to biodiversity, sport and recreational activities, forestry, hunting, agriculture and other land use. All this needs to be analysed in the context of ownership relationships, as about 85 % of the park’s own territory is private ownership and management. It is then necessary to develop long-term frameworks to ensure compensatory measures in relation to the long-term limitation of normal land management. The main output of the project is the development of a care programme which will be submitted for discussion and subsequent approval after the end of the project. By approving the care programme, complex requirements for land management will be defined.
