The city of Trenčín as the target area of implementation of the project belongs to ecologically balanced cities, with a number of city parks and tree gardens – the “green lungs” of the city, which create a pleasant environment for the inhabitants, but due to the ongoing climate change it is more necessary, with an expert approach to reconstruct their growing structures for future generations. The aim of this project “Green Lungs of the City – Highly Increased and alley Trees and Covers in Public Greenery in Trenčín” is to protect and support ecosystem services provided by urban elements – greenery as an element of green infrastructure contributing to the improvement of the quality of life in the urban environment and the adaptability of the territory of Trenčín to climate change. The aim of the project is to be achieved by reconstructing the growing structures of part of the green lungs of Trenčín by means of arborist interventions into scattered high-growth trees, alley trees planted in the lines of the Peace Square and 8 streets (Rázusova, Študentská, Nábrežná, Jiráskova, Legionarska, Kúty, Veľký Moravská and Hodžova) and by comprehensive revitalisation of the areas in the line of Eastern streets that will provide biodiversity environment and enable ecosystems to operate and provide services by connecting urban, suburban and rural areas. Arborist works will consist of stabilisation and maintenance arborist interventions on 150 adult target trees in the sense of STN 83 7010 in public greenery, arborist treatment of 319 pieces of alley trees by cropping and revitalising ul. Eastern on a total area of 21917 m² – 98 pieces of trees treated with a cut, removal of the raids will be removed, stumps milled. It will be planted with 25 fruit trees (mišpuľa, oskoruša, old varieties of apple and pears, Moruša), 1000 trees – vetrolamy (horn and beech), 25 shrubs with edible fruits (baza, raspberry and others) and 17271 m² based park lawn sowing. The result of the project will be to increase the share of green infrastructure in the total area of the city of Trenčín through the construction of 1 element of green infrastructure – green parks and stromorodia providing biodiversity environment and enabling ecosystems to operate and provide services by connecting urban, suburban and rural areas and 21914 m² of restored open space in the urban area – Trenčín na ul. Eastern. The physical outputs of the main activity of the project should help to increase the share of green infrastructure in the overall area of Trenčín and thus contribute to increasing the resilience of the settlement environment to the negative impacts of climate change (e.g. by reducing the effect of urban temperature islands, etc.), increasing the resilience of settlements to the expected challenges of further development of society (through nature and landscape protection, etc.). The project is thus fully in line with the IROP intervention strategy, and by implementing the project we will contribute to the achievement of strategic urban, regional, national and European objectives in the field of improving environmental aspects in cities and urban areas by building elements of green infrastructure and adapting the urbanised environment to climate change, as well as by introducing system elements to reduce air pollution and noise in order to improve the quality of life for residents of Trenčín. The project will have a positive impact on the quality of the environment, as it is another step in the implementation of a set of adaptation measures, the implementation of which will strengthen the capacity of the territory of the city of Trenčín conceptually to face changes and risks arising from climate change.
