The COVID-19 pandemic is a situation that we have not faced in modern history, and its great challenge is to define measures to cope with it and to prepare strategies to avert other possible global health threats in the form of newly emerging infectious diseases. The European Viral Archive GLOBAL (EVA GLOBAL) project, supported by the EU H2020 programme, has set itself as one of the main objectives to improve the availability of viruses and their derived products to the scientific community, thereby accelerating global virological research. An important mission of this consortium is to be an expeditiously responsive leader in times of viral epidemics. As part of the activities of the Biomedical Centre SAV (BMC) under the EVA GLOBAL project, the isolation and provision of Slovak SARS-CoV-2 strains to the scientific community and other institutions on a global scale. The primary objectives of the present project are 1) isolation of SARS-CoV-2 viruses, characterisation of their genome, analysis and multiplication with a view to making them available through the EVA GLOBAL depository with the aim of making them accessible through the EVA GLOBAL depository, the development of BTL activities of the BMC SAV SAV, and the development of the laboratory of the laboratory of viruses with a modern system of storage and registration, and preparation of the viruses of derived products for diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive purposes. The main site of implementation of the project will be the results of the SAV system, and the project will be validated by biotechnology laboratories and biotechnologicals. The extension of the virus archive to BTL SAS will support BMC SAV within the framework of the EVA GLOBAL project in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, while at the same time significantly strengthening the possibilities of BTL SAS in Šarišské Michaľany to develop human potential in high-value-added research with a direct international impact, thus promoting their integration into the European Research Area.
