The project forms part of the long-term concept of renewal of the ZSSK fleet, follows the ZSSK strategy and is also in line with the strategic documents of the Slovak Republic. It addresses the attractiveness of the ŽOD services and the strengthening of its competitive position on the transport market, as well as the improvement of transport service in the High Tatras region through the modernisation of vehicles that will provide the travelling public with higher quality of service, comfort and culture of travel, greater safety and reliability of transport, which should be translated into an increase in the number of passengers of the ŽOD and an increase in the efficiency of operation, as well as a reduction of negative impacts from transport on the environment. The implementation of the main activity of the project will be modernised 15 EJ series 425, which will be operated in the locality of the High Tatras on lines with a gauge of 1000 mm included in the Tatranská Electric Railway (TEŽ). The modernisation of EJ includes the modernisation of the interior, the installation of air conditioning, a new EJ control system, new traction converters and inverters of auxiliary drives and the installation of an information system. The basic objective of the project is to increase the attractiveness and quality of services of the ŽOD for the travelling public in the locality of the High Tatras, to increase the comfort of transport, technical life of vehicles, safety and reliability of operation, as well as to improve the working environment of employees. The measurability of the achievement of the project objective is expressed by indicators: 15 modernised EJs and 2 971 493 passengers carried by public rail passenger transport in 2028.
