Communication II/552 is the entrance radial to the city of Košice from the direction Veľké Kapušany – Slanec, is the main transport route connecting the village Zemplína with Košice and at the same time the only access road of the inhabitants of two adjacent urban areas with the city center. The aim of the presented project Cycling communication along the bacon road II/552, Košice is to attract and increase the safety and use of non-motorised transport in the city of Košice. The project for the construction of cycling road in addition to the bacon road in the city district Košice – Nad Lake consists mainly in the following construction modifications: construction of cycling communication in the associated transport area on the right side in the direction of Slanec, separated from communication by a dividing belt, next to the proposed pedestrian belt and construction of a new footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists through Myslavský potok, next to the bridge building on road II/552. The target group is the users of the road transport network, in particular the inhabitants of adjacent urban areas, surrounding towns and villages experiencing civic infrastructure (shops, schools, offices, etc.), centres of economic importance, industrial zones, cultural centres, visitors to the city and region, tourists, random travellers, etc. A measurable indicator is the length of new cycle road sections – 2.2 km. By implementing the project through the main activity Construction of cycling communication and footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists along the road will increase the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on roads, removing bottlenecks in pedestrian and cycling traffic, removing barriers to crossing, increasing the level of infrastructure for non-motorised transport, creating an attractive alternative mode of transport, allowing better access to basic public services (social, health, educational), improving road safety and fluidity, reducing accidents, reducing transport energy intensity, improving conditions for non-motorised transport, increasing the share of cycling, positive environmental effects in terms of reducing air pollution, noise, etc.
