“Smart Bardejov – a city within reach” introduces in Bardejov the Internet of Things platform for transport, environmental monitoring through a system of sensors. Sensor data will be used for the development of urban public policies – transport and parking policy, environmental policy – and useful applications for citizens, visitors and businesses. The operation of the IoT platform with all user interfaces in physical space and through mobile applications will have a direct impact on citizens’ quality of life, the urban environment and better planning of related public policies. Furthermore, over open data from the Internet of Things platform, the private sector and other public institutions can build other useful applications for specific population groups and user categories, e.g. for science and research. The project will deliver specific HW and applications for environmental monitoring, occupancy of parking spaces in areas of interest, visualisation of meteorological data and pollution indicators, reservation of parking spaces, payment and control of parking fees and enforcement of the law on these sections of the VS. The whole solution is ideally the first, but at the same time, a key step in the comprehensive development of the Internet of Things as an integral pillar of a modern smart city. As other e-government solutions, the results of the project “SMART Bardejov – City at hand” will require a phase of training and awareness-raising for both VS staff and users – citizens and visitors – as a follow-up to the next steps of the HR to increase citizens’ digital competence.
