The aim of the project is to improve the conservation status of species and habitats and enhance biodiversity in selected Natura 2000 forest and permanent grasslands, namely 14 bird species and 11 habitats of Community importance in forest ecosystems in 13 NATURA 2000 sites and 1 protected area of national importance. This objective will be met through selected measures based in particular on the principles of close forest management nature and other measures aimed at improving the age, spatial and species structure and biodiversity of forest stands in the project area and to ensure a sufficient number of trees left for survival or gross deadwood in selected forest stands. The proposed measures are based on further documentation prepared for these NATURA 2000 areas or on an approved management programme for these areas and will be implemented in the framework of forest management activities in the restoration and upbringing of forest stands or as part of the reconstruction of the tree composition of selected stands. The activities of the project are subject to State aid rules within the meaning of the State aid scheme for the provision of services of general economic interest in the field of biodiversity protection, as amended by Appendix 1 (hereinafter referred to as the “aid scheme”).
