The aim of the present project is to build a regional centre for the recovery of biodegradable waste for the city of Bardejov, in order to ensure the ecological recovery of the BRO and the reduction of the amount of waste disposed of by landfilling. By implementing the project, the city of Bardejov wants to solve two consecutive environmental problems. On the one hand, contribute to the reduction of municipal waste and, at the same time, by building a composting plant in close proximity to the former Lukavica landfill, contribute to its rehabilitation. The creation of conditions for separate collection of BRKO to citizens of the city of Bardejov will fulfil the expected preconditions of the new Act No 79/2015 Coll. on waste and meeting the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC. We will ensure the fulfilment of the objective of the project by means of measures related to the creation of infrastructure for the collection of BRKO through the purchase of transport facilities and collection containers for BRKO, and measures related to the operation of the BRKO recovery facility by purchasing the necessary technical equipment. These measures will create a comprehensive system of management of BRKO, involving one of the most natural and ecological forms of recovery – composting these organic wastes. The project foresees an increase in the amount of sorted biodegradable waste by approximately 1210 t/year, reaching the amount of sorted BRKO 3000 tonnes/year after the completion of the project. Collection of BROs within the project will be carried out in the cadastral area of the city of Bardejov. The actual recovery will be carried out on the project exhibited composting plant in the cadastral area of Komárov parcel number: CN-C Nos 278 and 274/51. At present, the city provides for the regulation of public greenery, but the harvest itself and subsequent recovery are already taken out by the contracted partners, as the city does not have the capacity to recover it. A newly built composting plant with a capacity of 4000 tonnes/year will enable the city to manage biodegradable waste in an environmentally efficient manner and create the conditions for stopping the ever-generating black landfills. As a result of the implementation of the project, the complex system of collection and efficient recovery of BROs in Bardejov will be solved in accordance with the legislative provisions of the Slovak Republic and the European Union directives.
