Introduction of a Geographic Information System in fifty-seven (57) areas of the electricity distribution network

With the extension of GIS to the remaining 57 HEDNO Areas, a single computerised geographical background will be acquired for the whole of Greece, with high precision, the entire distribution network and the descriptive data related to the network and its data. The GIS will provide statistics and support network technical applications. The size of the distribution network and the number of data relating to the network, which must be kept and processed by the distribution services, makes the project very complex and highly demanding. This computerised system will also support the monitoring of the execution of projects and the identification of the parts of the network where reinforcement or renovation is required and will provide information on the frequency and location of the faults, thereby contributing to the reduction of user connection time; as well as the modernisation and improvement of the reliability of the network. The network users that will be captured include RES producers, thus upgrading their monitoring, as well as the extraction and processing of relevant information, thus enabling the processing of results of RES development policies. The implementation of this system will contribute directly to the monitoring of the proper functioning of the distribution network, while indirectly contributing to the more efficient management of electricity produced and the better utilisation of the RES potential. The implementation of this project will ensure energy supply, improve the efficiency of the internal energy market and support the sustainable economic development of Greece in conjunction with consumer protection, which is a central pillar of EPANEK.
